Warts are small, noncancerous growths that occur when your skin has been infected with a strand of the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes warts. This virus kickstarts extra cell growth, which causes the outer layer of the skin to become thick and hard. While warts can occur on any area of the skin, they are most likely to occur on the hands or feet. Kids and teens are more prone to getting warts because their immune systems have not yet built up a defense against HPV, though adults can get them as well. Candida antigen immunotherapy is a great treatment option to eliminate warts that have not responded to previous treatment.

What is Candida Antigen?

Immunotherapy using Candida antigen is used to treat cutaneous warts and molluscum contagiosum, which are a common occurrence in children and teens. This treatment boosts the immune system, fighting off the variety of human papillomavirus which is the cause of warts.

Who is a Good Candidate for Candida Antigen?

Individuals who do not see good results with other wart treatments such as cryotherapy or Cantharidin or who experience multiple wart recurrences can often benefit from Candida antigen treatment. Ideal candidates will be physically healthy with a positive outlook on their results. Please contact our office today to schedule your consultation appointment to determine if this treatment option is a good match for you.

What to Expect During Candida Antigen Treatment?

This wart elimination treatment is fairly quick and straightforward. Candida antigen is injected directly into the wart by your dermatologist. The treatment should be repeated every three weeks for a total of 3-5 sessions.

Because warts are highly contagious, it is important to take the proper steps to prevent future warts from occurring. Do not touch other people’s warts, or pick your own warts. Also, do not share personal belongings such as towels or razors with other people, as this may also spread warts.

Candida Antigen Recovery

Following your Candida antigen treatment, you may experience discomfort, redness, and swelling. However, these effects should resolve with time. There is no downtime required following your treatment, so you can feel free to return to your everyday routine as soon as possible. Because there is no cure for HPV, there is always a chance for a wart to reappear following treatment if there is still some of the virus in your skin. Do not hesitate to contact our office regarding any questions about recovery or possible side-effects.
