How Your Skin Can Benefit From Microneedling

Home | Blog | How Your Skin Can Benefit From Microneedling

Microneedling is becoming one of the most popular procedures on the cosmetic market. It comes with a variety of benefits, and it’s likely you’ve heard about it. If you’re considering your options or simply want to boost your skincare game this year, then here’s what to know about microneedling.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a skincare treatment in which tiny needles are rolled over the skin to create micro-channels in the skin. When your body recognizes these “injuries,” it begins generating new collagen and healthy new skin cells. This results in firmer and smoother skin with a noticeable glow.

The procedure is extremely popular because it has no downtime, is free of harsh ingredients, and can be completed during your lunch hour. Most patients undergo a customized series of treatments to fully treat their skin concerns.

Who is a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling can be beneficial for patients who:

  • Have moderate wrinkles, uneven skin texture, or fine lines
  • Have mild to moderate skin laxity
  • Have a diminished color or skin tone that looks “flat”
  • Have acne scars
  • Have trauma scars or stretch marks
  • Have previous sun damage

What Happens During Microneedling?

Microneedling is performed using a topical anesthetic so that you’re comfortable. Once you’re ready, a specialized handpiece is applied to the skin to generate micro-wounds with very small needles. Once the area is treated, active ingredients can be applied to address specific concerns so that they’re more effectively absorbed by your skin. Finally, you can return home with detailed aftercare instructions for your skin.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Microneedling?

Microneedling is typically used on the face, although it can sometimes be used on areas like the neck or upper chest. It can target certain areas to treat specific issues, including:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Loose skin
  • Wrinkles, fine lines, and uneven areas
  • Acne and other scars
  • Age spots

What to Expect After Microneedling

There’s no downtime after microneedling. However, it’s common for your skin to be red and irritated for a day or so following treatment. You can go back to school or work immediately but, since your skin will be photosensitive, you’ll need to wear sunscreen. Our team will also provide instructions on which products to use to care for your treated skin. You’ll begin to see results within a week and should return for your next appointment according to your dermatologist’s recommendation.
