What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa?
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, is a chronic, painful skin condition that causes recurring lumps, abscesses, painful nodules, and scarring near hair follicles. It most commonly forms around the armpits, buttocks, under the breasts, and along the groin. These lumps can heal very slowly, often recur, and can cause scarring. It’s often caused by an overactive immune system and may have both genetic and environmental factors.

Who is Affected by Hidradenitis Suppurativa?

More often than not, the condition starts after puberty and before you are 40 years old. Because of when it occurs, hormones can also play a role in the condition. It can also become worse as you age.
